Okay, I've thought about doing this for a while now. Making a blog to vent my distresses and scoffings at watching what is produced and put on the silver screen, television, radio, the interwebs.... or anything, ... mostly T.V. and Movies though.

Yep, another site dedicated to venting displeasure, and the rare pleasure of what is considered entertainment to those that can afford to do so in there respective media fields.

I'll start with just a few things that I have come to be a thorn in 90% of all media fails today, and I will probably expand on as time goes by.

1. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
2. Formulas are not an excuse.
3. What's good for the goose, etc.. apples/oranges..
4. Laziness 4 $
5. Contagious story lines/arcs
6. Spastic camera's and cuts
7... etc.. (there all pretty much the same thing)

I am currently writing this for my own sanity, and I may never write anything here again. I may only write a review when the media I am attempting to enjoy pushes me past a limit, so it may all be terrible reviews; or not, it doesn't matter because at this moment I am not writing this for anyone, but just venting.

The movie I am watching at this moment isn't the worst movie I have ever seen, not by far; it has been a few bad movies in a row and boredom that made this blog finally happen; otherwise this blog would still just be festering in my brain as another possible thing to do in the 'future'. I can't remember them all, or rather I don't want to ... and though I don't want to give credit to Sparks for causing this blog, but it is the movie that I wrote this 'vent' to.

I do hope that I find the energy to give good/great reviews, but mostly mediocre reviews. If I can make it to the point where I write reviews for meh/average types of media maybe this blog will be worth the most to me, if I do indeed actually write more here.

------

Sparks sucked, it had some good story ideas, characters, and some arcs; but story telling/delivery didn't allow me to enjoy the characters, arcs, or much of anything else. I will say this is VERY common, but different than the reason that most media sucks today. I think Sparks creators tried something and it failed, for me anyway.

In other cases though, story TELLING and DELIVERY are subverted to inject things that the makers and producers think are 'tried and true', but actually don't work.

Sparks - 3*(out of ten) and no, not a complete waste of time to watch.

My Rating System:

My rating system works for me,

4 is the average peace of crap I watch on T.V., with the occasional 5 coming from some surprises. Anything below 4 falls into the category of 'why this blog came to be', so I could vent.

3 means there was, or were thing(s) that just made me want to throw my headphones down, or roll my eyes in disappointment with humanity.

2 means the same as 3 but with actually taking off my headphones and not wanting to hear/see the next part of the media, and disappointment turns into dislike.

1 means the same as 2 but with possible muting, pausing to ending or walking out on, possibly hissing at the screen or noting to find out who produced/wrote the thing to try and avoid in the future; and dislike turns into a form of contempt. There are very few 1's, but I also know there are MANY things that I don't watch and many of them are on purpose.

I have given things i watch, which i try to keep track of; especially in T.V. episodes which can fluctuate a lot more dramatically than the T.V. show drama, because of different writing/directing. On any week some of the shows I watch on T.V. can get a 2 and the next a 6, or possibly 7; it has happened a few times. The highest rating I have ever given an episode was an 8, and I can't remember what it was.

I do have to mention though that i didn't have this rating system when I watched Firefly, a Pixar thing, or season 5 of Supernatural, or anything before that. I know there are some very solid '9's in there, and other shows/movies, and even possible 10's.  A '10' means even though anything could technically be 'better', doesn't mean the thing didn't deserve a 10 rating.

That said, if I give something a 4 or 5, it's not a waste of time, and probably good, a 5 is definitely above normal and good for what counts as 'entertainment' on the boob tube, so 5 out of ten on my scale is probably an 8 or so on another scale, but I don't want to give credit to a bad system by giving something an 8 just because everyone else is using bell curves, if it sucks... it sucks.

A 3 is tricky though, it's still in the domain of predictable crap that is the 4 of Hollywood expectations. A 3 needs to also be specified if the media was a waste of time as most likely a 1 or 2 will be.

I don't mean to pick on Hollywood specifically, because crap comes from all over the place and is put in front of us to enjoy, buy Hollywood is a mecca of sorts, so I use Hollywood generically; and will probably do so in the future.

Anyway, Sparks is over and I'm still writing. I do have to say the ending was better than the rest of the movie; which is very rare, almost worth changing my rating to a 4, but I won't because I had to put up with the crap to get to the 4 crap at the end... so definitely still a 3.

Most of my venting will probably be on T.V. episodes. The Mentalist would have gotten quite a bit of vent, but it's ending, and none to soon. Mentalist spoiler...       The end of red john was terrible, and just wasteful. more spoilers(latest episode) the death of Vega wasn't itself an episode killer, the episode was poorly put together, but it was a descent episode if not sad... until the end when I realized Vega only died so Jane could feel sorry for himself and whimper away like he had been wanting to, but now Vega gave him an excuse by being killed.  I had given the episode a 3, because the lack of respect given to their friend and partner, Vega; but after Jane's pity-party by the tree at Vega's funeral, I dropped it to a 1. It was like Jane was speaking as a writer... "I've been saying all season i want to quit, so you quit too Teresa, because this is the last season... and to make my point, Vega was killed, so listen to me Teresa!"

Okay, need to end post before venting causes even more venting as it just did. Besides, Walking dead/Talking dead starts back up this weekend... how I hope it doesn't suck; now that I think about it, the 8 might have been a Walking Dead episodes, some episodes probably deserved a 9, either that or I'm setting up some very high standards for 9's and 10's. Very few shows make it to their end without sucking, which itself sucks. I expect Walking Dead to be an exception.

I can't wait until Hollywood starts making shows that aren't so good at the start but only get better over time. Because they're really good at doing the opposite... well, on the rare occasion when they do release a descent show.

No need to proof read.... cause i'm done

  1. Mentalist (spoiler) followup - Oh hey look, they killed off a "possible" psychic, and his sister; waiting for the next episode to watch the producers/writes make it all about Jane.
